For the audition I won for my current job, I probably averaged 2-3 hours a day on the list for about two months before the audition. But everyone's different - I don't think there's any magic number of hours...

well, for the practice session itself, i spend between 2-3 hours, with about half the time on the excerpts. i have to keep etudes & solo rep mixed in there to keep me motivated. i've tried to increase to more hours, but it seems counterproductive for me cuz my mind phases out after 3 hours, plus i develop hand problems (usually stiffness that affects technique) from over practice.

Not totally sure of the exact quote, but I believe it was Starker that said that "Only apes practice more than 4 hours a day."
