Hi John,

I am not familiar with Strauss' Enoch Garden. Could you provide some additional info on this work. Also, I noticed in the email that was sent to me that you are performing this in Europe and on the East coast. Do you have any dates on the West Coast? Would like to attend. Be nice if your concert schedule was on your guest artist profile.

Though "Garden" is a lovely metaphor and oddly apt, the name of the work is in fact ENOCH ARDEN, which is the name of the central character Alfred, Lord Tennyson's narrative poem portrays. If you go to "Press Releases" here you can read a bit about the piece in the article there. Basically Enoch Arden is a melodrama, a rare genre once popular in the 19th century, where a poem or text is narrated and accompanied by descriptive or "program" music. Of course, in Strauss's case, the musical dimensions are much more eloquent and substantial than that! Many composers wrote them, including CPE Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Liszt, Schumann, Hahn, Delius, Schubert and even Nietzsche. Of course, the most famous example in the genre is probably Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf. For a sample of our recording, you can go to www.mp3.com/johnbellyoung and hear a bit there. For even more information about the work, and our recording of it, please visit:
http://www.mvdaily.com/articles/2002/09/arden1.htm Though it is not online yet, in a couple of weeks a website devoted to Enoch Arden will be available at www.enocharden.com

I am just getting the hang of this new site, and have not yet uploaded my concert schedule. We will perform in California and elsewhere on the West Coast before long, but at this time I don't have exact dates or venues, as these are being worked out by our agent. I expect we will perform in LA before long, and in Seattle, too. I will post this information the moment I have it.
