Appearing as the lead story on Myauditions homepage today, Soothing sounds for stressed-out hounds

I personally play Gregorian chant for my high strung Jack Russel Terrier, Phoebe, after a day of playing. Works like a charm.

Anyone else have a favorite music they play for their dogs too?

BTW - cute English Bulldog picture.

I don't think my kitty has any particular favorites, but instead of being bothered by my flute playing, she seems to be very intrigued by it. She often just sits in my lap & purrs or naps. Even when I play my piccolo, instead of running (like many cats do), she'll actually look up at it with this fascinating look, & will sometimes even kinda paw at it (lightly). Pretty much anything I play seems to soothe her Smile

I kept a 相思鳥 ( a kind of Chinese small singing bird that with jade green head and back, creamy chest and two white rings around the eyes ) many years ago. He sang whenever I played violin CDs. ( learning from the famous guys maybe, so just humbly sang ) And when I played my own violin, he sang more, more loudly. I thought he might say : " Oh, disgusting~~~ Look, I do it better than you ! ". My cute friend died 16 years ago and I have been with him for 6 and 1/2 years. The vet he saw also said he was very exceptionally long-lived as a small bird.

I had a Norwich Terrier that was quiet except for flute and high notes on a harmonica. This would get her to howl along with the music. Trombone or piano never elicited this reaction. I also had a German Shepherd who howled with the cello. Neither dog would sing a long with music on TV or radio.

Mac: How about the last movement of Ellen Zwillich's "Peanuts Gallery - Concerto for Piano and Orchestra?" It's called "Snoopy Does the Samba."

We had a hamster. It seemed pretty happy to run in it's wheel, stuff it's cheeks and chew holes in stuff; no matter what music we played.
