Is this just a publicity gimmick or.......?

Robot conductor

The article says that Honda gave a $1M education donation and then brought the robot to conduct a concert. Personally, I think there are better ways to highlight an education grant than putting a machine in front of a live orchestra to guide them in music-making. I don't know, how about a young conductor from the area who might have attended the Detroit schools and benefited from music education programs? Roll Eyes

But, the concert sold out...

Wasn't it Toyota, that recently sponsored the creation of that robotic violinist?

Now Honda is sponsoring this Robotic conductor. I'm starting to see a pattern Smile

Apparently not, the article said that at one point in rehearsal R2-D2 slowed down and the orchestra got lost....and R2-D2 didn't correct itself....THAT sounds familiar.

Maybe they really took it to the extreme patterning the programming after a real conductor Wink

Oh no, wait a minute---the real conductors do keep time, it's just that the fake ones have taken over....

But it could be programmed to say all the right schmoozy things at cocktail parties....just like a real music director!

Oh no, wait a minute..... Big Grin

......it's the fake music directors that do that.

Hey, is there a connection between poor time-keeping and dripping schmooze at functions? Confused

Don't know, but there certainly is a connection between poor time-keeping and being a machine (or acting like one...)
