This situation is just disheartening. I am sick for the musicians that will be losing their jobs and disgusted with a board that would let (in fact make) it happen. What makes me really nervous now is this: How many other boards will look at the Columbus Symphony and their "solution" to their financial problems and say "Hey! That could work here!"? As a musician in the ever-financially-struggling Charlotte Symphony I am more fearful than ever that our management will take Columbus' lead and cut musicians or number of working weeks. Unfortunately for us, it has become well known that our city's Arts and Science council does not think Charlotte should have a full time professional orchestra. In fact some on the council have flat out stated that we are under-worked and over-paid. It scares me that the horrible example being set in Columbus could affect orchestras all over the country.

Players web page

Very interesting. It looks like the marketing dept is doing a craptacular job, leaving concerts off of the web site etc.
