Instead of risking the quality of symphony musicians by lowering their average salary per week, the board instead reduced the number of musicians and the number of weeks they would play. The reasoning is that the weeks off would give the remaining musicians time to book other gigs to supplement their incomes.

I wonder how much actual thought went into writing that. Big Grin If it is any consolation to the musicians, whoever did write that will be unemployed very shortly, newspapers everywhere are making drastic cuts. Maybe they can find another job, a nice 34 week one that gives them plenty of time to line up additional employment.

If Columbus has a full time music critic, now would be a great time to speak up. Roll Eyes 34 week seasons really dont need full time critics.

The Columbus Dispatch got rid of the full-time music critic about 6 months ago, so they're actually ahead of the game in Columbus' "Destroy the Arts" campaign.
