The position was won by Kyle Knox. There were four semifinalists: Knox, Mark Dubac, Steven Ahearn, and another gentleman whose name escapes me. Knox and the other guy advanced to the finals and Knox won. He recently signed his contract.

Aren't those 3 that you named students of Todd Levy, the principal of Milwaukee? A little strange if you ask me...

Kyle is a good friend of mine and he studied with Ricardo Morales and was spending some time in California taking some lessons with Gilad and company at USC. I can't imagine a more deserving clarinetist (when you make the semis of the Met Orchestra at 21, you're doing something right) As far as I had heard, he wasn't a student of Levy.

Steve Ahearn and Mark Dubac have both studied with Todd Levy. They're also both excellent players, and it's no surprise that they made the semis.

FYI - 'the other guy' was Jonathan Gunn, who was not a student of Todd's.

Kyle did study with Todd Levy. He was with me at UWM.

yeah, ya never know in the music world...

but I don't think this was a fishy audition. They're all quality players. If I had taken the audition (I was on my honeymoon...priorities!), I probably would have done well, too, regardless of the fact that I studied with Todd.
