Any suggestions for what a female should wear to an audition? I'm assuming business casual here...please tell me if I'm in the ballpark here.

Thanks! Cool

Business casual is fine, as is business formal. I've seen women wear their concert black at auditions, and that's fine as well, although less common.

My audition 'uniform' is a pair of concert black pants and a sweater set. It sounds funny but the sweater set gives me confidence because if it is cold in the hall I leave the sweater on, and if it's too warm I can remove it. I know it's been mentioned on this site before, but just want to reiterate the importance (at least to me) of being dressed appropriately even if you know you will be playing behind a screen. It helps me 'get in the mood', if you will, and also projects professionalism and seriousness about the task at hand. Good luck at your auditions!

The sweater set seems very practical! Great idea! I've thought about something similar, wearing a blazer and a crisp white blouse underneath it.

Thanks!

Whatever you decide, you might want to play in it to be sure it is not too restrictive or make you too hot. You want to look professional but not at the expense of your playing.

OK, I realize this is just pre-audition stress disorder, but since the forecast for Portland on Tuesday is like 94 or something, I am seriously fantasizing about wearing shorts / T-shirt / flip-flops to the flute audition.

Oh wait, they can probably hear flip-flops on the other side of the screen, can't they...

94 outside, means meatlocker inside. You know they'll have that AC turned to frigid!

I always like to wear nice casual clothes to auditions so I'm sure to be comfortable...I've even started to wear my tennis shoes in the first round just so my feet don't feel tight or constricted in nicer shoes! Of course, I always pack nice shoes and a nicer top in case I make it past prelims and the screen comes down, but I figure better to play well and be comfortable than miss some stuff because I'm thinking "Boy, my shoes are tight!" Nicole -- they didn't have air conditioning. Shorts & flipflops would have been better, not that it would have mattered anyway Roll Eyes
