Does anyone know if NY Phil hired any violinists this past weekend? There were two openings.

Technically, Dan Carlson is on trial for two weeks in San Francisco. MTT does know him well from New World Symphony, so it's probably close to a slam dunk anyway.

SFO has a mixed history in this regard. Many former New World members (and others) have "won" auditions there and been on trial periods, only to be denied tenure or somehow have the process end. And because he is not involved in the preliminary rounds, many people MTT knows "well" don't make it past that stage.
There's no such thing as a "slam dunk" these days.

Three people "qualified" for the San Francisco violin audition. All three had a trial week. Raushan Akhmedyarova won the section position and Dan Carlson won the assistant principal second position.
