Music students around the world are now getting ready to perform their jury exams. I remember always being as nervous for juries as I was for any other performance. Here is a list of tips that I send out to the students at my school. Enjoy:

A Few helpful Jury Tips

1) Dress professionally.

2) Be early in case juries run ahead.

3) Be able to talk briefly about your pieces: composer, dates, key, form,
style, any neat info. about the work and be able to define any foreign terms
utilized (even if you are not asked it is good to know this information - but
you MIGHT be asked).

4) Be prepared to play ALL of the materials your teacher has assigned you (not just the ones you like).

5) Have your jury form filled out completely BEFORE you come into the room. Include EVERYTHING you have studied during the semester.

6) Expect to play scales and sight-read (practice these skills every day).

7) Percussionists - set everything up BEFORE you start. If you don't start
with snare TURN THE SNARES OFF. After you have played snare TURN THE SNARES
OFF.

8) You should have originals to your music with you.

9) The Biggie - The number one cause of nervousness and stage fright is lack
of preparation !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
