Last night, I played the Prokofiev 3rd Concerto (and I should add that one of the orchestral players shared with me that her grandmother was one of a few pianists accepted into Prokofiev's own piano class of private students in Russia!). One of the younger players told me that her high school choir she is a member of, is singing one of my choral pieces, 'Christmas In A Minute' next month. It was nice to hear that, especially from a violinist who also sings in her high school choir. It prompted me to share that if you have the chance to write music for your ensembles, they would absolutely love learning it, and, if you can find folk music material for them, perhaps they can compose music for their own ensemble--which would be a great challenge for them indeed--and then perform the new composition. I remember my high school choir sang music written by one of the choristers--and it was great music! It also brought the group closer together.
