In the five years I have been on the faculty at the Conservatory of Music at Brooklyn College, yesterday I realized what a lucky fella I am to have as my faculty colleague, Michael Rogers. Michael was also a student of Adele Marcus atleast 20 years before I was. When we have master class repertoire classes every week (an unusual thing to do I think), we have students play from both our studios and then each week, either I or Michael give a master class to the students to improve their performance. I realized that it is indeed fortunate that we actually see pretty much eye to eye on 99% of the issues at hand, which is odd for pianists at any conservatory. The students feel good about playing in front of each other, and we love to help them, regardless of who studies with whom. I'd better cherish these days while Michael is still on faculty--that may never happen again!!
