I´m in a city called San Luis de Potosi, a former capital of the silver mines of Mexico. Working with a marvelous conductor, Lawrence Golan, we´re doing the Mexican premiere of the 1924 original manuscript of ´Rhapsody in Blue´--this orchestra plays so well--there are some Russian players here--their rhythm is meticulous, sound rich, and they get that 1920s dance style of the Roaring 20s. The Mexican clarinetist must have some klezmer in his blood!
