Well after 2 nites with the El Paso Symphony and their conductor emeritus, the charismatic Gurer Aykal, the Rach 3 went beautifully. The piano was very 'tinny' when I first arrived--and the tuner, an elderly gentleman with the patience of many saints, said it was used for pop concerts, and needed to be softened down, which I certainly didn't argue with. The piano allowed me to feel free and at ease with a large dynamic range, from warm PP to rich FF. Although my firned who was originally scheduled to conduct had to move his appearances here to next month, I hope to play it with him soon too. Gurer has been the El Pasoans main man here for 12 years--they will always love him.
