Playing chamber music last evening--Shostakovich Trio--written for a victim of the Holocaust--staring at the Brooklyn Bridge--where protesters earlier crossed--Police helicpoters encircle and Coast Guard monitors activity--have we come so far from the Holocaust with the religious/political turmoil in the World--I hope it should never come to that point. Shostakovich's 'skeleton dance' in the last movement was never spookier! The third movement (which I call the ghostly funeral) was eerie overlooking lower Manhattan without the World Trade Center. The Trio might as well been inked this year.
